Dancewear That Celebrates the Spirit of Summer

Dancewear That Celebrates the Spirit of Summer

Summer break is in full swing, but that doesn't mean that dance has to be on a break too. Maybe you're still taking classes during the summer, doing workshops or intensives, or even just enjoying time doing outdoor activities.

The summer season brings out the desire to wear bright colours to stand out. In this post, we'll touch on new arrivals from FIVE that are in fun colours, garments that are specifically made for moving in, versatility of pieces in and out of the studio, and bright coloured items that will help you stand out at conventions, workshops, and auditions.

First off, can we just gush about how gorgeous the new arrivals from FIVE are?! To us they just scream summer with the fun colours. I'll list the items below for you to check them out:

Ease of Movement

Something that all dancers think about is whether the garment makes moving easy or if it was designed to move in. FIVE in particular is great for movement since they are high quality, made in the US, and are double-lined. Here are a few things to consider when making sure that a garment is something that you can move in:

  • Does the fabric stretch?
  • Is the fabric going to wick away sweat?
  • Try to get an item that isn't too tight or will ride up.
  • Is the garment from a dance manufacturer (ex., Mondor, Capezio, Bloch, So Danca)? If yes, they would have designed the item for dancers.

Versatility of Pieces

Another thing to think about is the versatility of items from the studio to the street. Sometimes you just want to be able to wear something from class to hanging out with friends or running errands.

Maybe you just throw a t-shirt over your sports bra and keep wearing the shorts you wore to class. Or maybe you stay in your crop top and put on some comfy pants.

Here are a few things that can make the transition from the studio to the street easy:

  • Built-in pockets
  • Breathable fabric
  • Fashionable (bold colours, stylish patterns) paired with something simple (ex., plain black leggings).

Some examples of items that make the transition from studio to street easy are:

  • Bra tops: they give you the support you need and are a great item for layering. You could wear them under a t-shirt in the summer or under a sweater in the winter.
  • Leotards: are a fashionable item that so many people are wearing in their regular wardrobe. You can wear a leo with jeans or even wide-legged pants.
  • Dance sweaters: most of the time they are worn during warm-up, but you could wear these when traveling, lounging, or running errands.
  • Leggings: the most versatile item since you can wear them with pretty much anything.

Stand Out with Playful Colours

Bright colours are playful for summer and will help you stand out at conventions, workshops, and auditions. Bold colours will also help boost your mood, which will help you feel more confident on the dance floor.

Overall, bright and bold colours don't just have to be for summer (they definitely feel like summer!). The new FIVE arrivals are great since they are playful, easy to move in, versatile, and will help you stand out at a variety of dance events.
